Sahar Ammar is a peacebuilding and mediation practitioner. She is currently a Program Officer at swisspeace, where she supports locally led peacebuilding efforts, including those by women’s civil society organizations. Her work focuses on thematic advice and capacity-building in reconciliation, mediation, conflict analysis, and transitional justice. Sahar also collaborates with UN agencies to promote inclusive dialogue and consultations.
Previously, Sahar worked with the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, where she supported multi-track negotiation processes in Libya. Notably, she contributed to the UN-led mediation efforts and supported local-level mediation initiatives.
As a researcher, Sahar has focused on political and territorial power-sharing, reconciliation, and inclusive governance. She has published on these topics, including contributing to the 2025 Berghof Foundation Handbook on National Dialogue and Transitional Justice. She also served as a lead researcher in the research project Power-Sharing for Peace in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, through which she authored several papers on post-conflict power-sharing arrangements. Her academic collaborations include work with institutions such as the Essex Transitional Justice Network. Sahar has also delivered guest lectures at universities including The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and the University of Geneva.
In 2024, Sahar participated in the Women in Conflict 1325 Fellowship, focusing on women’s meaningful participation in peacebuilding processes.
She holds a Master of Advanced Studies in Transitional Justice and the Rule of Law from the Geneva Academy for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, an LLM in Comparative Law from the University of Turin, and a Master’s in Mediation and Social Development from the University of Montpellier III.
