Dr. Nada Aswad is a Syrian mediator with over a decade of experience in mediation, peacebuilding, governance, and women’s empowerment. She has worked extensively with international and civil society organizations in Syria, neighboring countries, especially Turkey, and with Syrian communities in the diaspora. Her facilitation efforts span critical sectors such as health, education, transitional justice, social cohesion, civil society, youth and women’s issues, as well as political and constitutional matters. Dr. Aswad’s work covers all regions of Syria, regardless of controlling authorities, underscoring her commitment to neutrality, inclusivity, and national cohesion.
Dr. Aswad seeks to join the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network (MWMN) to amplify the voices of Syrian women in global forums and to foster cross-border collaboration among women peacebuilders. She believes MWMN provides a vital space to exchange knowledge, build solidarity, and connect local efforts in Syria with broader regional and international peacebuilding initiatives. Through this network, she aims to bring Syria’s complex realities into Mediterranean dialogues and contribute to shaping inclusive, context-sensitive approaches to peace.
As a member of the Women’s Advisory Board to the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Dr. Aswad has developed deep expertise in negotiation, mediation, and consensus-building. She is a founding member of the Syrian Civic Space Initiative (SCSI), an EU-supported platform active in Tracks II and III of the Syrian peace process. Since 2020, she has also played a key role in facilitating the side consultations of the Brussels Conference on Syria, through her work with SCSI.
Dr. Aswad is co-founder of the Syrian Women Mediators Network, working to promote inclusive and locally driven peace efforts. A major focus of her work is enhancing the political and peacebuilding participation of women—particularly those from conservative and marginalized areas. In collaboration with international and local organizations, she developed a comprehensive training manual and a specialized mini diploma on Women and Peacebuilding in Conflict Contexts (3Ps- 4Ps).
She also played a leading role in facilitating the National Dialogue Conference in Syria (2025) after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
