Rim Aljabi is an expert on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment from Syria/ Tunisia. She has a Master Degree in Gender Analysis in Development (UEA, UK). Her geographical expertise extends from Syria to Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Afghanistan. She is currently a Programme Specialist, UN Women. In 2020, she joined Search for Common Ground (SFCG.org) as the Gender Advisor for MENA Region focusing on the role of women as mediators, women’s inclusion in peace process and conflict resolution. Becoming a member of MWMN offers Aljabi a great opportunity to engage with peers and further enhance her role as a peace mediator.
Aljabi participated in several women and peace related events including: EPLO’s “Feminist Perspective on Peace and Security in Europe” (eplo.int); UNHCR/UN Women’s Global Forum on Refugees “Women on the Move”; the EU Brussels Conference on ‘Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region’ (2021 – 2023), where she presented the ‘Status of Syrian Women’. Between 2020 – 2022, she co-facilitated the “Status of Syrian Women After Ten Years of Conflict” webinar events with the Mediterranean Women Mediator Network (MWMN). In 2022, she became a member in the Arab Reform Initiatives’ fellowship Program Supporting Arab Women at the Table (SAWT). She wrote a policy paper on ‘The Role of Women Peacebuilders in Addressing Climate Change’; and a report on ‘Women participation in public and political life in Syria’. Aljabi is fluent in Arabic and English.
