Hajer Sharief and Loredana Teodorescu, together with representatives from over 50 countries and regional organisations, including the Italian Coordinator for WPS and YPS agendas, Luca Fratini, attended the convening of the Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network held in Oslo from 13 to 14 May 2025, co-chaired by Norway and Japan.
Held under the theme “Deepening WPS Commitments for Action: Innovating and Adapting to Deliver on Peace and Security,” the meeting focused on inclusive peacemaking and peacebuilding in a milestone year commemorating the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000). Our member Hajer Sharief chaired a panel discussion on Intergenerational Approaches to Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Response, discussing an intergenerational co-leadership approach to peacebuilding and humanitarian response, translating normative frameworks into action.
Loredana Teodorescu delivered some remarks on effective policies and practices, bringing the experience of women mediators contributing to influence decisions and peacebuilding efforts; and sharing some recommendations for focal points to support women mediator networks to realise their full potential. Members of the WPS Focal Point Network issued a joint communiqué reaffirming their collective commitment to the women, peace and security agenda and underscoring the need for urgent and sustained action in a global context marked by rising military expenditures, escalating conflicts and increased polarisation.
